Catherine Braconnier Designer + artistic director

A firm believer that enthusiasm fuels our imagination, Cat pours her contagious joy, friendliness and professionalism into everything she does.

As a graduate from the Interior Design program at the International Academy of Fashion and Design in Montreal, her passion for all things beautiful and functional was cultivated from a relatively young age. Gravitating for years to the ceramic tile industry, she began her career at Céragrès, initially in sales and then in showroom management. Over time, she had the opportunity to learn the fine art of product marketing and develop her creativity.

The desire to create her own brand of products was sparked after attending her first ceramic fair in Bologna, Italy. In 2002, she founded MUDTILE and in partnership with Ciot, developed the brand throughout Canada and the U.S. with the support of Stone Source, Dominion Tile, Icon and McKenna Distribution.

“Having been a salesperson myself is a huge part of my design process. I constantly keep in mind that salespeople need products that easily mix and match with their vast offering as that creates more opportunities to meet their clients’ needs.” This experience, combined with her meticulous attention to detail inevitably led to her profound interest and proficiency in artistic direction.

MUDTILE products grace well-known buildings throughout North America and beyond. Projects include the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, West Edmonton Mall, the HAMAD Medical Corporation in the Middle East, the Minnesota Vikings NFL Stadium in Minneapolis, Toronto’s hip Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens and Mastro’s Restaurant in Washington, DC.

Returning to her roots as a Designer, Cat draws inspiration from her strength in marketing the products that she has designed. She carefully curates all of the elements of a project–from product to marketing to lifestyle–and thrives on collaboration with companies that request her critical eye and her flair for branding.

That’s precisely where CAT LAB comes in. With this new concept specialized in the design of ceramic and stone surfaces, Catherine is able to lend her expertise as a tile designer as well as an art director. Working remotely out of Old Montreal, she is inspired by the city’s vibes, textures and energy, finding the perfect mix of European flavour and North American pace. Just as influential is the way she feels in the presences of horses, her profound passion, and as an outdoor person inspiration often strikes when she connects with nature.

Driven to continue putting her mark in the Montreal design hub, her innovative ideas and enthusiasm will take your project from the drawing board to reality. Get in touch.
